Phone handoff and streaming

Pair with the Android app, stream over your local network, and move playback between devices.

Once OFPlayer for Windows and OFPlayer for Android are paired, your phone can browse and play the library on your computer over the local network (LAN streaming), and playback can move between the computer and the phone at the same position (Handoff).

What you need

  • A computer with OFPlayer for Windows, on Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit).
  • A phone with OFPlayer for Android, on Android 12 or later. Both are on the download page.
  • Both devices on the same Wi-Fi or local network, with OFPlayer running on the computer.
  • OFPlayer Pro or an active Hub subscription for streaming and handoff. Pro covers one computer and one phone.

Pair for the first time

  1. On the computer, open Settings → Devices and choose Enable pairing. A QR code and a pairing code appear.
  2. On the phone, open OFPlayer and go to Connect a computer.
  3. Choose the computer it finds, or scan the QR code. To connect by hand, enter the pairing code shown on the computer.
  4. Wait for the phone to finish syncing the library, then choose a song as usual.

The pairing code is only needed the first time; after that the same phone connects by itself. The code expires, so always use the one the computer shows now. The QR code and the manual connection address are only for connecting: do not share screenshots of them.

Pairing is not syncing

Pairing lets the two devices recognise each other. Syncing gives the phone the playable tracks and their artwork. While the phone only shows “Connected” and has not finished syncing, you cannot play songs from the computer yet.

Move playback between computer and phone

  • From computer to phone: choose Play here on the phone. It picks up the song and position the computer is playing.
  • From phone to computer: while the phone plays, the computer shows its song and position. Choose Continue on this computer and wait for the phone to confirm; the computer then continues from the phone’s position.

If the phone does not confirm, times out or declines, playback stays where it was, so both devices never play at once.

If the phone cannot connect

  • Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, OFPlayer is running on the computer and pairing is enabled.
  • On the computer, use Check status in Settings → Devices. If rules are missing, choose Repair firewall; Windows may ask for administrator approval.
  • In Windows network settings, the trusted Wi-Fi the computer uses must be set to Private.
  • Guest networks, AP isolation on the router, VPNs and proxies can all stop the devices from reaching each other.
  • If the pairing code has expired, use the one the computer shows now, not one from an old screenshot.

Manage paired devices

In Settings → Devices, open Manage paired devices to see or delete pairing records. After you delete one, that phone has to pair again to reach the computer; other devices and your music files are kept. If you reinstalled the phone app, choose its most recent pairing record.

When you are not on the same network

LAN streaming and handoff only work on the same network. To listen with someone who is not with you, use Listen Together. If connecting is slow or playback stutters, see Network troubleshooting.
