Play the music on your NAS over WebDAV
Keep music on a NAS, a home server or a drive that speaks WebDAV? Add it to OFPlayer as a WebDAV source and browse and play by folder, with no download first.
Key features
- On every app
- Original files
- Works with common setups
- Subsonic too
Highlights
On every app
OFPlayer for Windows, OFPlayer for Android and the web player all accept WebDAV sources, so one server works on all your devices.
Original files
Audio is read only when you play a track. Files on the server stay where they are and are never moved, changed or transcoded.
Works with common setups
Connect the WebDAV service built into many NAS systems, or tools such as OpenList (Alist) that offer a WebDAV endpoint. Compatibility depends on the server.
Subsonic too
Running Navidrome? Use a Subsonic source instead to browse an indexed library by album and artist.
Add a WebDAV source
Open the source menu
In OFPlayer for Windows, open the source picker at the top left and choose Add network library…; on Android, add music from the top of the library and choose a music server.
Enter the details
Pick WebDAV, then enter the server address, an optional root path, and the user name and password your server asks for. Use the WebDAV endpoint, not the address of the admin page.
Test and save
Test the connection, check that the music folder is reachable, then save.
Choose it and play
Select the saved connection, browse its folders and pick a track to play.
One extra step for the web player
The web player asks your server for files straight from the browser, so the server must allow cross-origin requests (CORS) or the browser blocks them. OFPlayer for Windows and Android don’t have this limit.
Good to know
WebDAV gives access to files, not a music index. For a large collection you want to browse by album and artist, run Navidrome on the server and connect with a Subsonic source. The Windows app currently loads up to 5,000 tracks from a remote list; if the server has more, the list is not the whole library. When you reach your home WebDAV server from outside, use HTTPS and a strong password, or connect through a VPN.

Frequently asked questions
Can OFPlayer play FLAC straight from my NAS?
Yes. Over WebDAV, OFPlayer reads the original audio files on the server, so FLAC, MP3 and other common formats play.
Should I use WebDAV or Navidrome (Subsonic)?
WebDAV is good for browsing by folder and most NAS systems can turn it on. Navidrome scans your library first, which makes browsing by album and artist faster. OFPlayer supports both.
Why does the web player fail to connect to WebDAV?
Usually the server does not allow cross-origin requests. Enable CORS for the OFPlayer web player on your server, or connect with OFPlayer for Windows or Android instead.
Is my password sent to OFPlayer?
No. Connection details are stored on your device, and OFPlayer connects straight to the server you set up, not through OFPlayer servers.
Can I listen to my home NAS when I’m out?
Yes, as long as the device can reach your WebDAV address, for example through a public address or a VPN into your home network. Use HTTPS and a strong password for public access.
